The RX-0 Unicorn Gundam is one of the most popular Gundam designs in recent memory. Including the Special Finish versions, Bandai has released 13 different HGUC Unicorn model kits as general releases! This Unicorn Mode version and its Destroy Mode counterpart were the first ones! This model kit builds into the Unicorn Mode version of the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam and does not contain any transforming parts. Check out the Real Grade version for a 1/144 scale transformable RX-0 Unicorn Gundam.

Articulation –

The lack of exposed Psycho Frame parts allows Bandai to mold the armor into larger pieces. Thus, the HGUC RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Unicorn mode uses substantially fewer pieces than the Destroy Mode version. Fewer parts mean that building the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam Unicorn Mode is much more straightforward than its counterpart. The RX-0 Unicorn Gundam does miss out on some modern joint structures to create a more stable final product.

Weapons and Other Notable Attributes –

The Hyper Bazooka is held in the right hand when in use and will attach to the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam’s backpack when not in use. Remove the middle section of the barrel and the magazine to display the Hyper Bazooka on standby. The ammo pack for the Hyper Bazooka clips into the back skirt armor to complete the look. This plug also supports the Shield with the use of an included adapter. The Beam Saber hilts within the backpack are removable but; in-universe, the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam would be unable to use these Beam Sabers until it entered Destroy mode. The two included Beam Effects are for hilts within the forearms.

Tips and Tricks –

By implementing the technique of Top Coating, you can do a great deal to help preserve the longevity of your models. This process will protect the original plastic of your model kit and prepare it for any additional modeling techniques to follow.

You can drastically improve your results by making the details pop on the HGUC #101 RX-0 Unicorn Gundam (Unicorn Mode) with Panel Lining. The simplest solution for this is Gundam Markers or Tamiya Panel Line Fluid. If you’re up to a challenge making panel wash is always a great option too! It is always recommended to Topcoat with clear gloss beforehand, as some of the products commonly used for Panel Lining will degrade the untreated plastics over time.

Another way to keep adding detail is by applying Stickers/Marking Decals. Top Coating before the application will help decals stick to the surface much better. Using Top Coat after application will help hide the seams on traditional sticker decals as well as waterslides. This additional step will also keep them from peeling over time. Using Decals is a great way to add an even greater level of detail to your scale models.
