HGUC #20 RGM-79 GM

$10.99

The RGM-79 GM was the first mass-production Mobile suit created by the Earth Federation. This MS used data gathered from the RX-78-2 Gundam and the RGM-79[E] GM Early Type as the basis for its design. The RGM-79 GM proved to be pivotal for the Federation’s victory during the One Year War, so much so that the GM and its later variants would be the primary Federation MS Force until UC0089 when Anaheim Electronics created the RGM-89 Jegan for the Earth Federation. The RGM-79 GM joined the HGUC lineup for the first time over 20 years ago! This release must have been so exciting for fans at the time, as the only other mass-production Federation HGUC model was the HGUC #12 RMS-106 Hi-Zack, which looks just like a suped-up Zaku!

Here’s what Bandai included alongside the classic HGUC RGM-79 GM:

  • Beam Spray Gun
  • Shield
  • Unpainted Beam Saber
  • Beam Saber Hilt

If you haven’t built a High Grade from around this time, it’ll feel like a completely different animal. The RGM-79 GM uses almost half the number of pieces that later, more modern HGUC GM variants. The RGM-79 GM should build up wicked fast and is the perfect choice for someone just getting into Gunpla Building. Because of the simple build process, the legs and forearms will have noticeable seam lines on the front and back. The legs do, however, feature a simple double jointed knee structure for better posing.

Weapons and Other Notable Attributes

Clear Beam Saber Effect parts did not become the standard for HG model kits until a few years after this release. Instead, Bandai provided a fully deployed Beam Saber molded in the same plastic as the armor. There is also a spare Beam Saber Hilt to store in the RGM-79 GM’s backpack. The adapter to equip the Shield features a ball joint connection for a more dynamic look when in use. Plug the Shield into the RGM-79 GM’s backpack when not in use.

 This kit includes:

3 Runners total (A, B, PC123+)
Total Piece Count – 93 with 5 Unused Parts
Foil Stickers
Materials – PS, PE

Tips and Tricks –

By implementing the technique of Top Coating, you can do a great deal to help preserve the longevity of your models. This process will protect the original plastic of your model kit and prepare it for any additional modeling techniques to follow.

You can drastically improve your results by making the details pop on the HGUC #20 RGM-79 GM with Panel Lining. The simplest solution for this is Gundam Markers or Tamiya Panel Line Fluid. If you’re up to a challenge making panel wash is always a great option too! It is always recommended to Topcoat with clear gloss beforehand, as some of the products commonly used for Panel Lining will degrade the untreated plastics over time.

Another way to keep adding detail is by applying Stickers/Marking DecalsTop Coating before the application will help decals stick to the surface much better. Using Top Coat after application will help hide the seams on traditional sticker decals as well as waterslides. This additional step will also keep them from peeling over time. Using Decals is a great way to add an even greater level of detail to your scale models.
